at my table

“gatherings” is a series of photos shot off the table in places where people gather, such as cafes or restaurants. I place the camera straight on the table with a fair bit of plain surface in front of the lens to capture room reflections, just like I would experience them, leave all objects on the table as they are, choose an open aperture that will only capture a shallow depth of field, usually in the middle distance and take the photo without looking through the viewfinder or on screen. This way the camera captures a fairly random shot that presents itself to me as I look around the place. It captures the feel of the there and then. To make the scene unique and outstanding I choose to over-exaggerate colours and structures through HDR, turning the random ordinary moment into a special one. – “gatherings” can happen anywhere in the world.
